The days are getting longer and there is already a slight tickle of spring in the air. Everything is coming out of hibernation and ready for a fresh start with renewed energy. A good opportunity to look what has happened on the CO:RE Knowledge Base over the last weeks. Enjoy the tour and send us your feedback.

🌎 Safe Internet Day 2023
On 07 February, we celebrated together with all of you, the 20th edition of the Safer Internet Day. The SID highlights the importance of youth critical awareness of digital cultures online. On the occasion, our colleague Sirkku Kotilainen emphasised the importance of research and in particular the role of participatory approaches with children and young people on their digital cultures. Read her blog post here. More tips on participatory research can be found in the CO:RE Methods Toolkit.
By the way, there is now also a Finnish version of our animated movie 🎬 🐔 "Have you been invited to participate in research? Then you should watch this film". French and Belgian versions will also be available soon.
In context of this year's SID, Mariya Stoilova, Miriam Rihali and Sonia Livingstone also published a good practice guide on "Classifying and responding to online risk to children". Developed as a collaboration between Insafe and Media@LSE, the guide offers a range of case studies presented to illustrate the harms to children and the way professionals can respond constructively. Links to additional resources are provided to help facilitate access to further information and to centres of support.
👩🏫 CO:RE Education Toolkit launched and running
Our CO:RE Education Toolkit was successfully launched 🎉. It has been developed by our fantastic CO:RE team at European Schoolnet EUN through extensive consultation and co-creation workshops with teachers, professionals and youth. The result is a comprehensive toolkit with relevant information and a wide range of helpful resources.
The toolkit supports everyone working in education to get comfortable with key topics and debates about children and online technologies. In doing so, it takes users through the first steps of learning about research, provides useful guidance on using research in educational practice and tips on keeping up to date with research and evidence. Check it out - it's interesting and inspiring (not only for educators).

The last short report deals with a current and urgent topic: the effects of digital technology on adolescents' wellbeing. With the Integrative Model of ICTs Effects on adolescents' Well-being (iMEW), Hayriye Gulec, Adéla Lokajová and David Smahel present a new theoretical framework that integrates the media theoretical perspective with insights from developmental and health psychology.
