And all of a sudden spring is here. Everything is in bloom, the birds are singing and the sun's rays lift the mood. University has started in many places and there are a lot of plans for new projects. In CO:RE, it has been a bit quieter since the project formally ended, but we continue to add new blog posts and other information to the CO:RE Knowledge Base knowledge platform to keep you up to date. Feedback and suggestions for topics are - as always - welcome. Just send us a short message to info@core-evidence.eu.

💬 CO:RE in the EU Parliament Committee

On 1 March, Claudia Lampert from the coordination team, was invited to present the CO:RE project in the workshop on "The influence of social media on the development of children and young people" at the meeting of the CULT Committee of the European Parliament. At the beginning, Brian O'Neill (TU Dublin and leader of the Policy Work package in CO:RE) presented an expertise on “The influence of social media on the development of children and young people”. Thereafter, Rosanna di Gioia  (JRC) shared research and findings of the JRC on “Children’s digital practices, online safety and wellbeing in the family and school context”. All presentations can be found  here. The workshop was very interesting, providing an overview of the current situation as well as highlighting the gaps in research.

💬 CO:RE Expert Meeting

On 28 March 2023 we organised a CO:RE expert workshop in Hamburg, which was also to be the final event of the project. Everything was ready and the anticipation was great, but then there was a nationwide strike, which made it impossible for most of the national and international experts to travel and we had to cancel everything and move the meeting the digital. Despite all the adversities, the workshop was very successful. We were able to exchange many ideas with the experts on how to further strengthen the exchange between research, practice and policy. We will follow up on some of these ideas in the coming months and keep you posted.

📘 CO:RE explores - studies in brief

The recent blog post on the CO:RE Knowledge base on “Growing up in a changing media environment” introduces the project of the same name "Socialization in a Changing Media Environment (Connected Kids)", a cooperation between the Friedrich Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg and the Leibniz Institute for Media Research | Hans-Bredow-Institut (HBI). The project explores how digital transformations affect socialisation, and in particular the family as a communicative figuration, through a qualitative panel study. The blog post refers to a brief summary of the report in English.

💭 CO:RE for young scholars

To give young scholars easier access to the CO:RE Knowledge Base, our fabulous student assistant Maite Pesci produced a short video clip which helps to explore content surrounding theories of children’s media use, how to use them and how to get a start on theory building. Make sure to check it out (it's not only interesting for young scholars)!

🎬🐔 CO:RE animated movie in further languages

Many of you already know our animated movie for researchers to inform kids and young people about their rights as research participants. The film “Have you been invited to participate in research? Then you should watch this film!” was developed by our team at the University of Oslo. The video is now available in even more languages (Italian version coming soon). If you have not yet found your language (see full playlist here), and would like to contribute to translation, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us!
